Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What SIEF’s does www.acetylsreach.com cover?
A. Acetic acid (CAS no 64-19-7, EC no 200-580-7), acetic anhydride
(CAS no 108-24-7, EC no 203-564-8) and vinyl acetate (CAS no 108-05-4,
EC no 203-545-4).
Q. What is the difference between the Consortia
and the SIEFs?
A. The Acetyls Reach Consortia aim to ensure
a harmonised, ‘fit for purpose’ and cost-effective
approach to REACH registration for acetic acid, acetic anhydride
and vinyl acetate. Progress towards registration, data sharing
amongst potential registrants, agreement of classification and
labelling, compensation for data that will be used by others
and enabling joint submission of the dossier are all enabled
through each SIEF. SIEF creation is mandatory by legislation.
Q. Do I need to join a Consortium
in order to access data that will be used in the final technical
dossier?
A. No. For each substance, the Consortium comprises
of major European producers/data-holders. Each Consortium aims
to ensure a quality registration dossier for the substance. SIEF
members may simply use a ‘Letter of Access’ to access
a joint registration dossier.
Q. What is the cost of the ‘Letter of Access?
A. The consortium may charge SIEF members for
a ‘Letter of Access’. The charge will cover the
costs of dossier generation and the cost of data
compensation for data owners.
The actual cost of this has still to be agreed. The website displays
a message from each Consortium detailing when this information
will be finalised.
Q. When can you tell me how much a Letter of Access will cost?
A. The actual cost of this has still to be agreed. The website displays a message from each Consortium detailing when this information will be finalised.
Q. Who leads each SIEF and how do we communicate?
A. The lead registrants are likely to be confirmed
as BP for acetic acid and acetic anhydride and Celanese for vinyl
acetate. Communication will be via the website www.acetylsreach.com,
or by e-mail for example, info@acetylsreach.com, aceticacid@acetylsreach.com, aceticanhydride@acetylsreach.com or vinylacetate@acetylsreach.com.
This communication service may be administered, on behalf of
the Lead Registrant, by a service group.
Q. Why did I receive an invitation from SIEF-IT
to participate in one of the Acetyls SIEF’s?
A. The Acetyls Consortia have
no intention to use SIEF-IT to communicate to SIEF members, this
was not done with our knowledge.
Q. My company submission deadline
is 2010, how can I monitor progress of the technical documentation
required for registration?
A: The website details information
of the ‘road map’ for technical dossier compilation
and regular website updates display news of progress
Q. Are there read-across opportunities for substances
within another SIEF?
A. We welcome discussions with other SIEF’s
regarding read-across.
Q. After completing the enquiry
form on your www.acetylsreach.co website,
or e-mailing directly, I did not receive a reply. Why?
A. We endeavour to
answer all enquiries as quickly as possible. Our e-mail to you
may have been rejected by your SPAM filter. Have you checked
in your SPAM mailbox? If possible, please change SPAM filters
such that acetylsreach.com is a ‘trusted sender’ and
